Birmingham ’s historic Curzon Street Station is to house ‘The Cure Zone’, an eclectic exhibition of visual communication pieces created by a group of postgraduate students. The students, who have recently completed their Master of Arts degrees, spent twelve months studying at UCE Birmingham Institute of Art and Design.

The twenty-six students are all graduates of the popular MA Visual Communication course, which attracts animators, photographers, film-makers, illustrators and advertising creatives from across the globe. The show features work from students originating from the UK, Italy, Cyprus, France, Poland, Czech Republic, India, China, USA, Thailand, Malaysia and Mexico.

Course Director, Professor Andrew Kulman, said: “The show is the culmination of months of preparation and will feature work of students who collectively hail from four continents. What brings it all together is the synergy that has resulted from their combined efforts. It has been fantastic to see students from such diverse cultural backgrounds working together to create this flagship event for UCE Birmingham.”

Curzon Street Station was first opened in 1838 and was the first direct rail link between Birmingham’s City Centre and London. The building is of significant historical importance to the city as it was from here that Birmingham-made goods were transported globally during The Industrial Revolution. The station ceased to operate as a rail terminus in 1966, but survived demolition when it was purchased by Birmingham City Council and granted Grade I Listed status. The station is now used as an important gallery space in the regeneration area of Eastside.

‘The Cure Zone’ will be open to the public at Curzon Street Station on New Canal Street (opposite Millennium Point) from Tuesday 2 nd until Friday 5 th October 2007 and will be open from 11am until 8pm each day. For further information please visit www.thecurezone.co.uk
