Students from the Royal Holloway, University of London Drama Society have recently attracted much acclaim for their production of Rose Gets Shot, gaining a four star review in The Scotsman. Under the name of ‘Royal Holloway Theatre’, the company celebrated their tenth consecutive year at the Fringe, performing the play written by student Chloe Campbell.

David Pollock of The Scotsman stated that this play was ‘a real low-key gem of the Fringe programme this year’, continuing by saying that ‘Director Amber Homes and scriptwriter Chloe Campbell have done an incredible job on a play which is absorbingly rich in character and gloomy atmosphere’. Dubbed by the company as a ‘murder mystery story’, the production is about the mysterious disappearance of a girl named Rose after she receives a strange letter.

A great number of this year’s company are Drama and Theatre Studies students at Royal Holloway; one of the largest theatre departments in the country.

Royal Holloway students are renowned as one of the most active University groups at the Fringe, and last year presented William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In 2006, www.one4review.com stated that ‘Royal Holloway Theatre continually brings quality productions to the Fringe’.

James Pigeon, President of the Drama Society, says ‘The success of ‘Rose Gets Shot’ undoubtedly maintains the high reputation that Royal Holloway’s Drama Society has at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The production’s achievements are ultimately down to the commitment and enthusiasm of the show’s cast, production team and all who helped throughout the whole process: we thank everyone who gave us so much support.’
