A selection of short films produced by students is to be screened at the Edinburgh Filmhouse.

Film and media studies students from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh will be presenting an eclectic mix of short films to be shown on the big screen on Thursday 5 July.

The screening will showcase 13 documentaries and dramas, the majority of which have been produced by students in their final year of their degree course.

Walid Salhab, lecturer in media studies at Queen Margaret University said: “The event is being organised by our students and this screening is great opportunity to see a fascinating range of short films by young talent. Our students film, edit, direct, produce and sometimes act in their films. The results are often humorous, thought provoking and sometimes edgy.

“The documentaries look at diverse subjects. One investigates Scottish culture in relation to the Tartan Army, football violence and sectarianism; another takes a poignant look at the affects of long term medication on the health, social life and private lives of individuals with mental health problems.

“There is also a dark action film, a cult film about the mass production of zombies and a film about a hired assassin.

“This screening is quite diverse and should offer something for everyone.”

The screening takes place in the Filmhouse, Lothian Road, on Thursday 5 th July at 8.30pm. Tickets priced £6 (£4.50 concessions), Ticketline tel: 0131 228 2688
