‘Inspire’ Comes to Edge Hill

From today members of the public will be able to join the Inspire scheme free of charge and discover hidden treasures within the Library and Learning Resource Centre at Edge Hill University.

The University is the latest to join the nationwide Inspire scheme which already has over 3000 supporting partners. By participating in the scheme, academic and specialist libraries up and down the country have opened their doors to the general public and given access to their collections and reference materials, some for the first time.

At Edge Hill the scheme gives members access to a huge array of reference materials including books and an extensive back catalogue of journals such as the Nursing Times, Labour Market Trends and The Historian. Inspire Scheme members can also gain access to a selected number of PhD and Masters dissertations as well as rarer material after giving 48 hours notice

Support staff at the library can also help members gain access to books from across the country. The Findit! website www.findit.org.uk is a guide to over 600 library collections throughout the United Kingdom. It acts as a search tool for hobby, study or research topics, identifying specialist printed library collections throughout England that are associated with the subject area you search for. Staff will be on hand to help members search for their particular interests.

Mark Ramsden, Lending Services Manager said,’ The Inspire scheme gives an ideal opportunity for those interested in studying at Edge Hill University to come and look at the resources that we have available here. For others it is a chance to come and browse through our reference section and see what a huge range of material we have available.’

‘The Learning Resource Centre has something for everyone from reference books to specialists journals covering many wide ranging topics.’

‘The support staff here at the University are really excited about the chance to help members of the public and the families of those studying here find information on their interests. Coming onto the campus might bring back a few memories for past students of all ages.’

The library is open to the public from 8:30am - 5 pm (9pm Mondays) from Monday to Friday until Friday 31 August. From 3 September, the Learning Resource Centre is open 8:30am - 9pm Monday to Friday, and 11am - 6pm weekends. Facilities available for use by scheme members include a coffee shop, photocopiers and daily news papers.

Those wanting to join the scheme should go to the information desk in the Learning Resource centre where staff will be on hand to help.
